Created on a derelict plot located at the heart of an urban block and owned by the municipality of Romainville, Jardin Casse-Dalle is an agricultural production space integrated into the Cité Maraîchère. The project was designed in close connection with production needs and in consultation with local residents. This approach, rooted in the existing conditions and developed in continuous collaboration with the client, enabled rapid implementation within just a few months.

The inner block was extensively de-sealed. Materials resulting from demolition were entirely recycled and reused on site, optimising the budget while avoiding waste generation. The garden’s layout takes into account the heterogeneous soil contamination. Edible crops are grown in containers recovered from the Cité Maraîchère, while unpolluted areas are planted with small fruit trees. More constrained zones are dedicated to ornamental uses compatible with soil conditions. The garden is structured through a diversity of environments — hedges, a fruit grove and planting beds on poor soils. These habitats support biodiversity and accompany agricultural production by strengthening the presence of beneficial insects, contributing to the natural regulation of pests.

Jardin Casse-Dalle functions both as a place of production and as a gathering space for neighbourhood gardeners. Beyond promoting sustainable urban agriculture and local consumption, it also serves as a pedagogical tool. Workshops organised regularly by the Cité Maraîchère make the garden a place for learning and knowledge-sharing at the heart of the city.
