Following an urban study of Ivry-sur-Seine’s town centre, the city has begun to implement the first stages of its long-term vision. Conceived as a concrete prefiguration of how the heart of the city could evolve over the next twenty years, the project tests small-scale transformations focused on soil de-sealing, planting and the improvement of everyday uses.

Two sites were addressed. In the Raspail courtyard, which hosts the city’s youth services as well as a concert venue, the project transforms a mainly mineral space into a place for gathering, pausing and hosting activities. Part of the ground is de-sealed to introduce planted areas and convivial spaces, supporting both daily use and occasional events.

On the town hall car park, the intervention anticipates the alignment of a future major pathway within the planned central park. Beneath the existing plane trees, several parking spaces are removed to restore the soil’s capacity for infiltration and prepare a more generous landscape continuity.

In both cases, materials from the deconstruction process are kept, sorted and reused on site. This restrained approach limits removal, reduces the impact of construction works and gives new value to existing resources. Carried out with a class from the horticultural school and a social reintegration organisation, the works bring together the transformation of public spaces, the transmission of know-how and a strong local grounding.
