QUARTIERS NORD - AMIENS

L The Amiens Nord area is a large extension of post-war housing estates developed from the late 1950s onwards. Covering nearly one third of the city’s built-up area, this territory occupies a strategic position between the agricultural plateau and the Somme Valley. Its inclusion in the NPNRU programme enables the City of Amiens to mobilise significant resources to continue the transformation of the district, renew its image and improve residents’ living conditions.

Alongside Atelier Philippe Madec (APM), Wagon Landscaping is involved in the development of a long-term urban transformation project, with a horizon set at 2050. This vision builds on the site’s existing landscape qualities and considers the area as a large-scale urban landscape project. The approach is structured around three main principles: strengthening the major continuities between the agricultural plateau and the Somme Valley; reopening east–west connections from plateau to plateau in order to revitalise all neighbourhoods; and creating a local urban framework based on interstitial spaces and a network of natural areas.

The proposals are deliberately operational. A series of project sheets provides the contracting authority with concrete tools to initiate public space improvements, while taking full account of existing conditions and favouring recycling and in-house implementation. Wagon highlights the potential of small, targeted interventions to significantly enhance the quality of the everyday landscape, by responding to observed uses and valuing existing plant heritage. In particular, maintenance practices are considered a powerful tool to enrich local amenities and strengthen the presence of nature in the city.

The project also establishes a dedicated action unit aimed at mobilising municipal teams to carry out gardening-based interventions, including differentiated management, gentle pruning, complementary planting and the consolidation of informal pathways.
